Enchanting its visitors since 753 BC, romantic Rome is like no other.
Italy's capital and largest city is located in the central portion of the Italian peninsula and is famous for its ancient architecture, exquisite cuisine and rich history.
Historically dubbed the 'eternal city', ancient Romans believed that no matter what happened to the world, Rome would go on forever.
Although this is thought to have originally related to the strength and endurance of the Roman Empire, something no longer relevant to modern society, the city has continued to prosper and amaze for over 2000 years, giving renewed accuracy and meaning to the sentiment.
"Italy has changed, but Rome is Rome." - Robert De Niro.
What gives Rome its magic is the array of beautiful buildings and famous architecture, some of which date back to Ancient Rome.
Some unmissable sights include the Colosseum, Spanish Steps, the Pantheon and the magnificent Trevi Fountain, all of which provide moments of tranquility nestled within an otherwise bustling city.
Another aspect of Rome that makes it unique is that it has another country within it - Vatican City.
Vatican City is the worlds smallest country and is the global headquarters for the Roman Catholic Church. The country is ruled by the absolute monarchy of the Pope, and the economy is supported by the sale of postage stamps, souvenirs and entry fees to the museums.
Vatican City is also home to world famous monuments. For example, St. Peters Basilica and the Sistine Chapel. A must-visit while on your trip to Rome.

Now, it is safe to say that the Italians know their food, and in 2010, when Julia Roberts' character chose Rome as the 'Eat' part of her "Eat, Pray, Love" world journey - she knew what she was doing too!
When in Rome, the food is plentiful, with a restaurant to serve every taste and pocket. From family run trattorias and pizzerias, to hip and trendy haute cuisine.
Rome is a major gastronomical centre, with world-class crispy pizzas, unpretentious pastas and wonderful meats and fresh fish to choose from.
In this city, you really can't go wrong.
As for the shopping...
Rome can also be an expensive, fashionable city, fabulous for those who like to shop 'till they drop!
If you are drawn to luxury Italian fashion houses, the Piazza di Spagna is for you! Located at the bottom of the Spanish Steps, the square is home to Prada, Valentino, Gucci, Fendi and Armani stores.

However, if that isn't your scene, a cheaper, yet authentically Italian option is to visit the open air markets. They offer everything, from clothes to antiques.
