Jet2 quickly jumped on the news, announcing plans to resume flights to Portugal from Monday 24th, flying from a range of UK airports:
· Belfast International
· Birmingham
· East Midlands
· Edinburgh
· Glasgow
· Leeds Bradford
· London Stansted
· Manchester
· Newcastle
An average flight time of only 2 hours 30 minutes makes Portugal a wonderful destination for that last-minute summer getaway.
Temperatures remain in the high 20's long into September, but even as the country begins to cool down ready for Autumn, it is still the perfect climate for exploring what the exciting cities have to offer.
Portugal was founded in 1128, making it one of the oldest nations in Europe, and it's two main cities are a must-see!
LISBON
The country's capital of Lisbon is a safe and friendly city to explore.
The best and most iconic mode of travel around the capital is via the hop-on hop-off tram, allowing visitors to get a feel for the city and witness all the views and elegant architecture.

The Jerónimos Monastery is thought to be the most popular and important Lisbon monument, and is perfect for visitors who like to immerse themselves in a city's culture and history.
Visitors are able view the tomb of Vasco de Gama, the Portuguese explorer who was the first European to reach India by sea.

Lisbon caters for the whole family and the Zoological Garden is a wonderful day out for even the littlest of explorers.
As one of the most important in Europe, the Lisbon Zoo is home to over 2,000 animals, including crocodiles, dolphins and giraffes.

The zoo advertises a varied schedule of shows and educational presentations, as well as a little train and cable car in order for visitors to see the park in all its glory.
PORTO
Portugal's second city, Porto, has flourished and gone from strength to strength in recent years.
It was invited to share the title of 2001's European Culture Capital, and it is easy to see why!
Porto is a lively city, with fabulous nightlife and a rich history. The city takes pride in valuing the arts - so is home to many world famous concert halls, including the Coliseu do Porto and the São João National Theatre.
Although, Porto is probably most famous for being responsible for Portugal's popular export - Port Wine.

The sweet drink is made in the Douro Valley, and there are many wine tasting and Winery tours to sign up for and enjoy.
THE ALGARVE
For those not looking for a city break, a visit to The Algarve will be right up your street!
It is an area of breathtaking beauty - mesmerising cliffs, caves and world-famous golf courses.

Framed by the iconic Tivoli Marina Hotel, the Vilamoura Marina is a hotspot for a wide range of bars, restaurants and shops - buzzing with energy, both during the day and at night.
In our opinion, there is nothing better than relaxing after a busy day on the beach by enjoying a cocktail on the harbour - bliss!
